One of my favorite people is a woman named Virginia Spiegel – not only a wonderful artist, but also a lover of wild places and a humanitarian. In the last several years she has run fundraisers to benefit the American Cancer Society, and is nearing a milestone. With this year’s fundraiser, she hopes to top a quarter million dollars. To that end, she has invited 100 art quilters to create small works to entice patrons to donate $100 each to this very worthy cause. In return, the first 100 patrons will receive a work of art. For all the details on how to make this happen, visit her website: http://www.virginiaspiegel.com/FFACThe100Fundraiser.html
The piece I made for this event is called “Celebrate! II”, and features a big gold star to honor my husband’s own fight against cancer over the past year and a half. Now that he has been given a clean bill of health, we are celebrating with big stupid grins on our faces. But along the way, we also learned to celebrate the small everyday miracles.
This is a one day event, so mark your calendars and don’t miss out!
