Greetings, Everyone, from beautiful, sunny Whidbey Island!
Okay, it was sunny when I left, I am on my way out of for a two week retreat in the mountains, and wanted to get this off to you before I left. In addition to getting a little fabric work done, and attending to a couple of business items, my hope is to spend some time just reading or doodling or resting my eyes. After running full-tilt boogie for the last three years, a little downtime is in order. And now that Van is back on his feet, this seems like the right time for a break.
Speaking of Van, he has been doing a lot of work on my website of late, and the Classes page has been totally revamped with an updated list of class offerings and lectures, complete with class descriptions and supply lists, which should make things easier for everyone concerned. He has also added Buy-It-Now buttons to everything on the site that is currently for sale. I finally got tired of haggling and figuring shipping for each and every sale, and decided to have a flat rate shipping charge: $5.00! Anything above that, I’ll pay. So that’s already programmed into the button, and sales will be much easier from now on.
After the big Night Thoughts exhibits, I also had some work in an exhibit in the new Northwinds Gallery in Port Townsend, WA, recently. After that exhibit, I was offered a joint show next May with **drum roll please** Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry! I’m stoked! She will have the walls, and I will have the shelves and pedestals. What fun! More details when we get closer.
If you will be traveling to the Portland, Oregon area for IQF’s Quilt! Knit! Stitch! show, two of my Bernina Fashion Show garments will be there in a retrospective display of past Fairfield and Bernina Fashion Shows. August 13-15, 2015.
This fall I will have several pieces at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts in Cedarburg, Wisconsin from October 21, 2015 to Jaunary 10, 2016.
Locally, I have work in both the Oak Harbor and Freeland libraries as part of group exhibits at the moment, and will have a solo show at the Freeland Library in August.
I will be doing some teaching this summer, fairly locally. It’s good to be back in the classroom after a break to deal with health issues. Here’s what’s coming up:
June 6 & 13
LaConner Quilt and Textile Museum, LaConner, WA
This class is two half-days with homework in between so students have a good shot at getting their doll finished. Details on the museum website: www.laconnerquilts.org
Layer Upon Layer
Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts, Victoria, B.C., Canada
A combination of fabric collage, free motion stitching, and a little beading thrown in for good measure. Details on the MISSA website: www.missa.ca
Beadwork: On and Off The Surface

In addition to my main bead love (bead embroidery), we’ll delve into peyote/gourd stitch, right angle weave, and maybe netting. Details on the Grunewald website: www.grunewaldguild.com
July 20-26, 2015
Creating A Personal Altar
The Grunewald Guild, Plain, WA
Whether it’s a place to focus for meditation, to honor a loved one, or celebrate life, a private place to stop, look, and listen can make a big difference in our outlook on the world. Details on the Grunewald website: www.grunewaldguild.com
That’s all the news for now! I am back to doing laundry and packing the car full of stuff for my two week retreat. I never have mastered the art of packing light, especially when I have a station wagon at my disposal to fill to the rafters! As much as I am hoping to get some work done, what I really hope for is a little quiet contemplation to recharge my batteries. It’s going to be a busy summer.
Wishing you bright, beautiful days, full of things that make your heart sing. Remember to take care of one another, but also to take care of you.
Be well, my little chickadees!
