A fragile leaf on it’s way from the branch to the ground – one last ballet in the wind – with a friend along for the ride. I find endless inspiration in trees, whether full of leaves, completely denuded, or the evergreens so prevalent here in Whidbey Island.
This particular work is a 12″ square of fused fabric collage, with an applique created with a hand-cut stencil and copper paint on black fabric. Several years ago I saw a video with Jane Dunnewold on making stencils out of manila file folders, so decided to give it a try. I ended up making several of shattered leaves, of which this is the second to make it into a project. The other is in the “Trees” gallery on my website:
